Common Characteristics of Scammers

  • Use fake identities or impersonate trusted organizations.

  • Request upfront payments, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or bank transfers.

Common Types of Scams

  • Phishing: Fake emails, messages, or websites designed to steal login credentials or financial information.
  • Investment Scams: Promises of high returns with little or no risk.
  • Romance Scams: Building fake online relationships to request money.
  • Tech Support Scams: Claiming your device has a problem and requesting payment to fix it.
  • Online Shopping Scams: Selling products that do not exist or are never delivered.
  • Lottery and Prize Scams: Informing victims they have won a prize but must pay a fee to claim it.
  • Job Scams: Offering fake employment opportunities that require upfront payments or personal information.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Verify the identity of anyone requesting money or personal information.
  • Never share passwords, OTPs, or banking details.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or messages.
  • Research companies and individuals before making payments.
  • Avoid offers that seem too good to be true.
  • Use secure payment methods and enable two-factor authentication where possible.
  • Report suspected scams to your bank and the appropriate authorities.
